The 4th amendment laid down
rules for police officers. It limited what they could do unless they had a warrant,
it would allow them to arrest or search a person or their home/vehicle.
Q: What is the historical
background of this amendment (why was it made?)
A: The 4th amendment was
ratified on December 15, 1791. It was made to protect the people from
unreasonable searches and seizures. It was made by the King of Britain.
Q: What does this amendment mean
today?
A: The amendment means police can’t
arrest people or search their house or cars without a warrant.
Q: Present examples of current
issues involving this amendment.
A: Today the Supreme Court is
trying to figure out whether or not police can look at a person’s cell phone
without a warrant due to all of the personal information a phone can hold.
Another problem we have is all of
the new technology and how the government can listen to our phone calls or look
at our text messages.
